The e-mail quoting mess
Please put quoted text first, then your reply.
You may be including the letter you respond to in your e-mail messages.
If so, you may send your reply followed by what
you received, or you may send the message you received followed by your
response.
A series of communications between two people that do it in opposite order
from each other, ends up with older messages in the middle, one person's
messages at the beginning, and the other's at the end. It's very difficult
to figure out how to read the messages in order. If more than two people
get involved in the chain, it becomes just about impossible.
We, everybody sending e-mail, need to agree on one way and stick to it.
I suggest we all reply at the end because:
- The resulting messages can more easily be read in order from first to last.
- It eliminates the annoyance of reading the last message first, not
yet knowing that the background you need to understand it is below.
If you disagree,
please tell me.
If you agree, please encourage everyone you can to do it.
