A Good Domain Name Service
Don't bother putting up a website without having your own domain name.
It's cheap - about $10 per year for .com and about $5 per year for a .us
domain. For that price you get your own name. For example, I own the
name, "requa.net". You may see higher prices, but I'm telling you that
you get nothing more by paying more. You'll get the lowest price and the
best service from
godaddy.com.
And, by the way, you probably don't want ot buy any of their extras either.
People are buying up names fast and you might have to use a little
imagination. Names ending with other than .com are easier to get.
The .org and .net names are a little easier to get.
You can get a .info, .biz, or .ws name. All these
are now open to everybody.
My favorite is the .us domain. Every other country uses it's two letter
country code and now we can too.
I recently got terragraphics.us after
being unable to get the terragraphics.com name.
You may be wondering
what owning a name gets you. It gets you nothing until you spend more.
When you spend several times that much, you can get the following:
- Your own name for your website, a name you can keep as long as you want.
Your name won't have any of those funny symbols nobody can remember or type.
Nobody else will be using it for advertising. Nobody else will be deciding
to change the name or terminate your right to use the space.
- Your own e-mail addresses that you can keep forever.
You won't depend on you ISP for e-mail any more.
This will be the last time you ever
send out change of e-mail address notices.
What you have to buy to get this is hosting.
You can get that from
godaddy.com
too for about $5 per month. If that's what you want, start by buying the
hosting and they'll give you a big discount on the first year of your
domain name.
